SHORT MAT FACILITIES

HBC is very proud to have what is probably the only permanent short mat facility within the local area. The hall normally operates with two top class mats that are down  for play throughout the year. A third mat is available for larger events or competitions and is easily accommodated in the playing area.  No special clothing is required other than flat soled bowling shoes, unless matches are played against other clubs.

Games available to members.

Our club is open every day of the week from 9-00am to 9-00pm.

Starting in early October and running through until about the end of March the club runs a number of internal leagues for members to play in if they wish.

Mixed triples games are played on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 10.00am.

Mixed fours games are on Thursday and Friday mornings at the same time.

Mixed pairs are played on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

There is also a ladies and gents singles competition commencing in December and running through on a knock out basis until early April.

During the afternoons Monday to Sunday both mats are available for roll up sessions which take place in two hour blocks from 2-4pm, 4-6pm and 7-9pm. Every member is guaranteed at least one roll up session per week at a time that suits individual members where possible. If space is available more than one roll up per week can be arranged via the Short Mat Manager.

On top of these games the club arranges a series of friendly matches over the winter period that are played both home and away. Members are encouraged to put their names down for these games and every effort is made by the S/M Manager to ensure that members all have an equal opportunity to play dependant on demand.

The club also enters three teams into the South East Essex Short Mat Bowls League. Members could be invited to play in these external games subject to their interest and expertise at short mat. These matches are played at home on a Monday, Tuesday and  Friday evening on seven occasions each over the whole winter season.

Over the Christmas period internal fun games are arranged and a very popular ladies v gents match is also held.

At the end of the winter season around the third week in April the club short mat finals are played and a second ladies v gents match is arranged to finish off our winter programme. Roll ups and some friendly matches then continue through the summer until the end of September.

Short mat coaching is available for new players if required and members may bring guests to the club subject to an additional charge.

Hadleigh Bowls Club is a very friendly club and has drawn members from all of the surrounding areas. The club offers members a wide range of playing options and we believe an active social element to suit all tastes.
